Our program equips students with a variety of strategies and tools to enhance their understanding of movement across physical, artistic, and educational contexts.
These classes offer students the opportunity to explore a variety of dance practices, fostering an understanding of how different forms of knowledge can intersect and inspire creative practices in dance making and performance art.
We provide a diverse range of techniques/practices, including Contemporary, Kandyan, Ballet, Bharatanatyam, Hip-Hop, Yoga, Martial Arts, Contact Improvisation, and Dance Theatre for musicals.
By integrating both forms from the Global South and those from the Western Hemisphere, we aim to highlight the importance of diverse learning. This approach not only cultivates versatility but also brings together different groups of people, enriching the dance community as a whole.
Play Exchanges is a dialogic engagement project that features a variety of activities, including artist talks, panel discussions, lectures, screenings, and more. Led by curators, scholars, artists, critics, writers, and others involved in the world of art and ideas, this project aims to provide fresh perspectives on art and its broad influence across cultures and time.
These exchanges will occur once a term and will take on various formats, from live events to digital platforms. Our goal is to expand how we think and live in dance
We value the impact of creative practices on society by embracing collaboration, experimentation, and research to shape the world we envision. Our annual certificate courses and weeklong workshops foster multidisciplinary collaboration, introducing students to various aspects of dance, performance, movement-making, and creative practices. From studio art and dance collaborations to site-specific compositions, these courses empower students to explore the vast possibilities of movement and performance, encouraging relevance and reflection in today's world while reimagining a future of shared belonging and participation.
These residencies will be held for a minimum of one month to a maximum of a full term, offering emerging choreographers from across Sri Lanka the opportunity to explore their creative investigations with dancers eager to experience diverse choreographic styles and ideas. This program fosters relationships and potential collaborations, both locally and internationally.
By hosting these residencies, we aim to support emerging artists during the initial exploration stage by providing them with a dedicated space, a group of dancers, and on-site feedback from MeshGround faculty.
Our hope is that these experiences will equip artists with the foundation they need to pursue their own paths in the future.
