How can movement, dance, and performance embody solutions, resilience, care, and justice in a rapidly changing world?
Weathering Grounds invites choreographers, dancers, and performance and movement artists based in Sri Lanka / Ilankai to participate in a hybrid choreographic research residency. This program places creativity, embodied practice, and community at its core - exploring how artistic movement can respond to and shape conversations around climate, care, and justice.
What the Residency Includes
Online Lab (2–3 days) - Jan 9th/10th/12th
- Creative climate storytelling tools and strategies
- Thematic frameworks and shared learning spaces
In-Person Intensive & Choreographic R&D (1 week, Colombo) - Jan 24th - 31st
- Physical practice and training to build embodied skills and resilience
- Mentorship and guidance to strengthen artistic voice
- Choreographic research and development through solo and/or group movement sketches
Who Should Apply
- Artists at all stages of their careers - emerging, mid-career, and established - and across all age groups (18 years and above) are welcome to apply
- We invite practitioners working with a wide range of disciplines, techniques, and movement forms.
- We especially encourage applications from artists belonging to communities that have been historically marginalised or structurally excluded - including but not limited to Tamil, Muslim, Indigenous, caste-oppressed, queer, trans, disabled, and rural communities - as well as those whose work engages with climate justice, social justice, or post-conflict themes.
- Applicants must be based in Sri Lanka / Ilankai.
